Women of the Capricorn East Circuit of the Methodist Church of South Africa, based in Seshego Zone 1, gathered in the Westenburg Community Hall last Thursday to celebrate Women’s Day.
The theme of the event was: ‘Honouring the past, preserving the present and shaping the future.’ Minister of Higher Education, Naledi Pandor, was the guest of honour and other distinguished guests, which included Member of the National Assembly, Dikeledi Magadzi and Member of the Provincial Legislature, Snowy Kennedy, joined in the festivities.
Reverend of the congregation, Mosiga Seekoei, opened the proceedings with a script reading from Esther 1. “We can learn some lessons from the experiences of Queen Vashti. Her husband gave a party for his friends to show off his wealth, power and wine and in the midst of all this, he got drunk with his guests. He then called his wife and paraded her in front of the drunk men,” Seekoei recapped. “Women should not be paraded in front of drunk men, whether it be from wealth, power or wine,” Seekoei said. He reminded women that they are standing on the shoulders of other women who fought for the freedom of the country.
