Young cancer patients receive Lego sets

Members of the Rotary Club of Polokwane brightened up the lives of young patients of the Cansa TLC Ward at the Oncology Unit of Pietersburg Provincial Hospital when 53 sets of Lego blocks were handed over at the ward last Thursday.
According to Debi Lilford, one of the coordinators of the project, this generous donation was made by the Lego SA Foundation, offered through the Rotary Club of Fourways Main Reef to The Rotary Club of Polokwane. The distribution was managed by the NGO Care for Education and for the hospital, Care for Education allocated some smaller sets that can be used by children in their beds as well as some larger sets which can be mixed together and allow for free builds in larger groups.
“Siloe School for the Blind is also a recipient of the Lego, and Duplo has been substituted for their younger age groups. Their handover will be done in four deliveries,” Lilford said and added that Care for Education is a non-profit organisation and partner of the Lego foundation which distributes charity resources to children, schools and organisations in need and aims to impact on early childhood development and primary education using concrete manipulatives which engage children in playful learning.
