Vendaboy Poet elated to scoop SATMA award
Best Tshivenda album at the South African Traditional Music Awards (Satma) has been awarded to Lutendo Evans Mugagadeli, better known as Vendaboy Poet.
LIMPOPO – The Satma awards were founded by Dr Dumisani Goba in 2005 and was held under the theme, Free to be me, at Mmabatho Convention Centre in Mahikeng, North West on Saturday.
The awards aim to unearth and develop traditional musicians by providing them with a platform that will recognise, honour, award and showcase their God- given talents. Vendaboy Poet managed to beat Sikheli Junior and Thifhelimbilu & Gazlam. Vendaboy Poet told CV that he is delighted to have won the award.
“I am honoured and humbled to be recognised for my music. I would like to thank God for giving me this talent as well as my fans and my mother for their support. To everyone who was nominated, we are all winners. To be nominated is the same as winning, unfortunately there can only be one winner.”
He further thanked the promoters, event organisers and all radio stations that keep on playing his music.
“To young poets and musicians, please stay in school and have a back-up plan because the music and entertainment industry is cruel,” he said.
