Em-Jayziel celebrates decade in music

Things changed for him in 2017 after he shared the stage with popular artists including AKA and Zodwa, he says.

LIMPOPO – Matsapola Malebogo, known as Em-Jayziel (CWSB), is enjoying a decade in the music industry and says he made it big in the industry without featuring popular artists or by having a manager.

His interest in music grew from being around family members who loved music and helped him with his beats. “I recorded my first song in 2010 but it was not good at all. People would laugh at me but all the criticism helped me and I began putting more effort into my music.”

Matsapola says he would attend festivals to see his favourite artists perform live on stage and the take the inspiration he drew from it into his own performances. He released a house song in 2015 which became popular and it was performed locally in his village in Botlokwa.

His life changed in 2017 after he shared the stage with popular artists such as AKA, Zodwa and others at the annual Kasi Explosion in Seshego. “My fans voted for me to be part of the event. I used my video from that event to market myself,” he said. In the same year, Matsapola got a chance to share the stage with his role model, Cassper Nyovest, at the Gold Rush event.

Matsapola did not further his studies after he matriculated, wanting to instead spend his time improving his craft. His advice to up-and-coming artists is to not give up, work hard and believe in yourself. “Make sure you pray for your hustle. Be patient and build yourself until you make it,” he said.

Matsapola is also an event organiser, and hopes to in future collaborate with Makhadzi and DJ Tira. You can follow him on Facebook: Malum_Jayziel-CWSB, Instagram: @em_jayziel, Twitter: @Em_jayziel_ and YouTube: Em_jayziel
