Lockdown regulations force Court to postpone Jordaan-trial

The trial was postponed in to 27 August.

EVANDER – The trial of alleged multi-million Rand investment fraudster, Mr Jaco Jordaan, did not proceed in the Evander Regional Court at the end of May due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Mr Jordaan, a businessman from Heidelberg who is being charged with investment fraud amounting to more than R100-million, could not travel from Gauteng to Evander to face the court on 26 May.

The trial was postponed to 27 August.

Mr Jordaan was arrested two years ago for allegedly swindling large amounts from more than 100 residents in Kriel and Secunda.

Most of these victims were either pensioners, soon retiring or people who received disability pension pay-outs. Police investigators uncovered the large-scale Ponzi scheme when investors’ monthly pay-outs dried up.
