Suspected Bethal cable thief appears in court
The suspect was caught when trying to flee from Bethal’s Anti-Crime Security Unit and police.

A man appeared in the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen cable on January 23.
The matter has been postponed to February 16 for the suspect to plea.
According to information received from Bethal police’s spokesperson, Sergeant Thomas Mogadime, in the early hours of January 22, police together with Anti Crime Security Unit (ACSU), arrested a suspect who was found to have the suspected stolen property.
The police were summoned to a residential area in Bethal where members from ACSU Security spotted suspects with cables. These suspects ran away after being noticed.
“The officers then informed the police requesting assistance in arresting the suspects. An officer arrested one suspect, but the others fled the scene on foot,” said Mogadime.
Mogadime said the suspect that was arrested, took both the police and the security officers to a place where they found more cable which was packed and ready to be transported.
“After the suspect was apprehended, he was taken to Bethal Police Station for further arrest and detention. He was then charged accordingly,” said Mogadime.
The police are also working in conjunction with officials from the Department of Home Affairs with the hope of ascertaining the status of the suspect in South Africa.
