The magistrate granted bail of R3000 each.

A man (35) and a woman (44) appeared before Magistrate Faith Kekana in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on May 24 for theft, corruption and contravention of the Medicine and Related Substances Act.

The duo were released on R3 000 bail each, and under the condition that they do not contact any of the witnesses.
They are due back in court on July 30.

A team comprising the Hawks Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Trichardt detectives and a local security company, arrested the two on May 22.

According to Warrant Officer Thandi Tshabalala, the Hawks spokesperson, the Hawks Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation received information about suspects planning to steal dialysis equipment in Trichardt.

“It is alleged the suspects approached and requested an employee of Braun Dialysis Centre to help them steal the equipment. In return, they offered to pay R5 000,” said Tshabalala.

The suspects allegedly went to Braun Dialysis Centre in Trichardt to collect the equipment.

After finalising the transaction, the equipment, valued at R160 000, was loaded into a red VW Polo.

“The suspects were immediately intercepted and found in possession of medical dialysis equipment,” said Tshabalala.

The equipment was confiscated, including the red VW Polo and R5 000.
