Pupils get a send-off function
“In all of you, I see gold, silver and bronze medalist.”
SECUNDA – Athletes from various schools in Mpumalanga received a send-off from the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation, the Department of Education and Sasol on Friday, 8 July at Ukhozi Lodge.
Pupils had training for two days at the Sasol facilities before their departure to Durban where they will be participating in the National Schools Championship Winter Games.
The MEC of Culture, Sports and Recreation said she believed in the team that will be representing the province and commended the organisers who have done everything in their power to prepare them for the tough seven days that lie ahead of them.
“In all of you I see gold, silver and bronze medalists come 14 July.
“You are a team of athletes who will take South African sport forward and in the near future you will fly the national flag at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Durban,” said Mr Sipho Mnisi, head of the department and representing the MEC, Ms Norah Mahlangu-Mabena.
Ms Lindiwe Sibiya from the Department of Education said Mpumalanga has done us proud, even in choral music and thanked the Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation for supporting the pupils all the way.
Connor Flowers from St Thomas Aquinas School gave a message of support to his fellow pupils and thanked the province, parents and Sasol for supporting them.
Dr Mafika Lubisi represented the Govan Mbeki Municipal Mayor, Ms Lindi Masina.
