Ruimsig Stadium to close temporarily for national majorette and cheerleading event

The stadium is set to host the National South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association event in the coming weeks.

Ruimsig Athletic Stadium will be temporarily closed to the public from June 29 to July 14 to accommodate preparations and hosting activities for the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) event.

According to a memorandum issued by the City of Johannesburg’s assistant director for Sport and Recreation in Region C, Nomalanga Jiyane, the closure is necessary to facilitate event setup, hosting operations, and post-event breakdown activities. During this period, the stadium will be unavailable for all regular public use and sporting activities.

The department stated that the temporary closure is intended to ensure that all logistical, operational, and safety requirements associated with the national event are adequately met.

Jiyane described the hosting of the SAMCA event as a significant opportunity for the community and the broader Region C area. The event is expected to attract participants, officials, and spectators from across South Africa, potentially providing social and economic benefits to the region.

The department has assured residents and regular stadium users that all necessary measures are being implemented to ensure the successful hosting of the event while maintaining public safety and order.

The Ruimsig parkrun has suspended Saturday runs on July 4 and 11, hoping to continue after the stadium is open for public use.

Further information regarding alternative facilities and the reopening of Ruimsig Stadium is expected to be communicated closer to the conclusion of the event.
