Stolen item recovered after Facebook Marketplace tip-off

A quick-thinking resident’s online find led to a carefully planned operation by security and police teams, ensuring the item made its way back to its rightful owner.

A high-value item stolen during a burglary over the Easter weekend was successfully recovered on the evening of July 21, following a co-ordinated operation between Absolut Security and the police.

According to Dean Alberts of Absolut, the breakthrough came after a resident spotted one of the stolen items listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace and contacted Absolut. They, together with the Honeydew police, came up with and carried out their strategic plan of recovering the item.

“Our team responded immediately, arranging a meeting to gather all information,” Dean says. He adds that the team posed as interested buyers and arranged a meeting with the seller, who was later identified as the suspect. The suspect arrived at the meeting point at 18:10; he had the stolen item with him and was immediately arrested and is currently in the police’s custody.

More details will be shared once available, as the case is still under investigation. For now, residents can rest assured that the stolen item has been recovered, and they are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any activities that look suspicious to the relevant law enforcement and response teams.
