New station commander takes office
Florida Police Station's new station commander looks forward to working closely with the community in the fight against crime.
Florida — Florida Police Station sports a newly deployed station commander, in the form of Colonel Frans Marweshe, a seasoned police officer with more than 33 years of experience, who is ready to pick up the reins from his highly respected predecessor, Colonel Amos Tsotetsi.
Marweshe entered the police college in 1991, completing his training in 1992, before being deployed at Putfontein Police Station, where he spent the next two years before his next deployment at Etwatwa, where he spent 14 years working his way up the ranks.

He was promoted to captain in 2004, and many deployments at different stations followed, including Vispol commander at Chrystal Park.

In 2018, Marweshe was promoted to lieutenant colonel and deployed as relief commander at Benoni.
He spent three years at Edenvale Police Station as Vispol commander and acting station commander before being deployed back to Putfontein as station commander in 2024.
“I was a little surprised when I was deployed to the Florida Police Station, since I’ve always been deployed on the East Rand.
“Nevertheless, I plan on making a success of this new adventure.”
Marweshe spent his first week at the Florida Police Station exploring the policing precinct and familiarising himself with the unique challenges the police face here.
He already has big plans, among which, splitting the area into four sectors as opposed to the current two.
“It is too big and varied an area for only two sectors,” says Marweshe. “I believe that we will be able to make a much more significant impact on four separate sectors.

“Illegal mining is rife here, and it makes sense for the sector police to be more specifically geared to handle the problems within their sectors.”
Marweshe has assured the community of Florida that he plans to carry on the policy of his predecessor by maintaining an open-door policy.
“I look forward to actively engaging with the community. It is only with the support of the community that we can win the war against crime.”
