Donors gather to support 4-year-old cancer warrior

These heroes didn't wear capes, and their support shows that they are ready to help turn a wish into reality.

The Cupcakes of Hope organisation hosted a bone marrow donation drive at the Irish Rock Women’s Club on Saturday, September 6, to support four-year-old Dianty da Silva in her fight against cancer.

Dianty was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia last year, and although she initially went into remission, the disease has returned. Doctors have advised that a bone marrow transplant is her best chance for full recovery.

Despite extensive efforts, no suitable donor has been found yet. Dianty’s mother, Dina, described her daughter as a courageous child who inspires everyone around her. Dina expressed her desire to watch her daughter grow up without the burden of disease, saying some days are more difficult and weigh heavily, but she remains a light.

Many community members who were eager to register as potential donors showed up at the event. The South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) supported the event, ensuring that all eligible donors between 16 and 45 and in good health could register.
