Champions Boxing fighting back against gender-based violence

To join the programme, call or WhatsApp the Champions hotline on 071 183 9646 as spaces are limited.

The Champions Boxing Council (CBC) of South Africa is calling upon all women to join the Champions Against Gender Based Violence (GBV) Women Empowerment Programme, which is hosted at their centre of excellence and human development in Maraisburg.

The mission of the CBC is to contribute to the global goals for sustainable development, and under this initiative achieving gender equality, social transformation and providing direct services to address various elements of GBV. Violence against women is a profound human rights violation with major social and developmental impacts for survivors, as well as their families, communities and society on the whole.

GBV is systemic, and is deeply entrenched in our institutions, our cultures, and our traditions in South Africa. GBV is highly prevalent and a major public health problem globally. Although both sexes suffer GBV, women are disproportionately affected. The robust programme offers women-led boxing classes, business seminars, counselling, yoga, life coaching and other support services specific to the challenges females face.

“Champions aim to transform victims of GBV into champions of GBV. Broad-scale programmes like these represent a major achievement for CBC, who have been championing the rights of women and marginalised communities since our inception in 1961. We aim to expand our impact and reach significantly, and encourage anyone and everyone to join us,” said Adele xxx (Jarryd sal die van vir ons kry), Programme Manager.

The programme is offered absolutely free of charge and will run from the 12 June to 10 July, every Tuesday and Thursday from 4.30pm to 6pm, with Saturday classes also available from 8.30pm to 10am. To join the programme, call or WhatsApp the Champions hotline on 071 183 9646 as spaces are limited. Everyone can get involved or make a difference through signing the pledge on their website championsboxing.org.
