Finances force Golden Drifters to bow out of SAB league
“Currently we are not able to continue financing our club at the SAB League, however we are in a process of securing sustainable sponsorships while we play in the LFA."
On Thursday, August 26 Golden Drifters FC announced that the team would not be returning to or participating in the SAFA West Rand SAB League for the upcoming 2021/ 2022 season.
Golden Drifters FC enjoyed its participation in the SAB League since 2018 after the club managed to purchase the status of Sibanye Gold Academy in West Rand.
The past three seasons have seen the club grow and attract support from a lot of local brands, and create great partnerships with some businesses in South Africa.

According to club owner Proud Shoko, the club will continue to play its football in the Local Football Association (LFA) soccer league.
“Currently we are not able to continue financing our club at the SAB League, however we are in a process of securing sustainable sponsorships while we play in the LFA.
“Financially the club was costing me a lot. With sponsors pulling out, unemployment and business being down on a personal level, the club had to pull out.
“Golden Drifters FC has been rooted in football development in the country. It is through this brand that we’ve managed to reach all parts of the country and also attract some great players from the Southern African region of Africa.
“It is with sad regrets that the club will not be continuing its participation in the SAB League.
“Our hearts are saddened and we wish all our players the best as they find new homes away from a place many called a beautiful home full of love, unity and peace.
“Thank you for believing in us, thank you for your business, thank you for your support and thank you for your love,” said Proud.
