SA’s best athletics schools square off in Ruimsig Stadium

The search for the country’s best athletics school kicked off at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium on Wednesday, September 29.
The Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #1 inspired nail-biting track and field action with a strong contingent of SA schools toeing the line ready to contend for the coveted title.
Launched in 2019, the Twizza Super School Series has quickly become a highlight on the schools’ athletics calendar and has one clear goal in mind – to crown SA’s best athletics school.

There was no shortage of competition at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium with teams going the extra mile to secure points for their schools.
Precious Molepo from Prestige College achieved a new personal best in the Girls U/17 200m in a time of 24.14 seconds.
“I am very grateful and happy,” said Precious, who also secured the top spot on the podium in the Girls U/17 400m in an impressive time of 54.16 seconds.
Naledi Makgatha from Vorentoe High School took gold in the Girls U/17 3 000m race in a time of 09:54.37 while Rolandt Grosskopf from Menlopark High School secured a double victory in the Boys U/15 100m and 200m races.

The Top Three schools in each category according to the ranking list were:
• Male Team Category: Menlopark High School, Prestige College and Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool Pretoria (Affies)
• Female Team Category: Menlopark High School, Prestige College and Helpmekaar College
• Mixed Team Category: Menlopark High School, Prestige College and Helpmekaar College

The Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2 will take place at the Green Point Athletics Stadium on Saturday October 23.
Once completed the Regional Qualifier #1 and Regional Qualifier #2 results will be tallied, with the overall Top 40 Boys Teams and Top 40 Girls Teams advancing to the Twizza Super School Series National Final that will take place at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium (Roodepoort) on Saturday, February 19 next year.
