Poorte remain champs of the West Rand
“We’ve got a young exciting squad and the victory shows that we are still the powerhouse of the West Rand."

The month of September added a boost to the Roodepoort Rugby Club camp after they squared off with Randfontein Rugby Club in a West Rand power measurement that certainly produced what was expected.
Roodepoort is the holder of the Castle Trophy and the unofficial champions of the West Rand after their hard-earned 27–19 victory over Randfontein on Sunday, September 19.
Loud rugby was on the menu as Randfontein looked promising and dominated at the breakdown, but when the final whistle blew the scoreboard was in Roodepoort’s favour.
Poorte never had it easy on the day as Randfontein bravely put up a solid wall on defence and fought the battle until the end.

Randfontein’s loose trio as well as lock forward Christoff Kleyn stood out and had a solid game, with the whole pack producing a good competitive battle up front.
The Castle trophy was introduced four years ago, and the winner between Roodepoort and Randfontein would have the bragging rights for that year.
Roodepoort won the cup in 2018 and 2019, and in 2020 Covid-19 halted sporting activities around the globe.
“We’ve got an exciting young squad and the victory shows that we are still the powerhouse of the West Rand.
“We have a game against Pirates Rugby Club on Saturday, October 9, and after a good win against Alberton Rugby Club, everything is looking good for the rest of the season,” said Club President, Mathys Booyens.
Roodepoort remained the champions of the West Rand by retaining the Castle Plate, with the following results:
• Roodepoort RC 1st XV 27 – 19 Randfontein RC
• Roodepoort RC 2nds 45 – 10 Randfontein RC
• Roodepoort RC U20s 39 – 5 Soweto rugby
• Roodepoort RC 3rds (SAPS Rugby Club) 0 – 34 Khosa Rugby Club
Roodepoort’s tries were scored by Ruan du Toit, Barend Steyn, Rapulane (Rapz) Mashoaliba, and Ethan Anderson.
