Bright future for Strubens Valley horse rider

Jenna admitted to the Northsider that her biggest achievement was buying her young horse Elvis last year in December whose registered name is Golden Shamrock.

Entering a show ring can be a sobering experience, and even just climbing into the saddle can be enough to make people nervous.

The 15-year-old Jenna Wright from Strubens Valley is a great horseback rider who truly believes in herself as well as her horse.

Like any great rider, the Agape Christian School Grade 9 learner possesses a good deal of confidence to ride, train, and compete on her horse.

Jenna was recently awarded colours at her school’s prize-giving ceremony for all her outstanding equestrian achievements.

She has competed at the SANESA Nationals since 2018, except for 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic that halted sporting activities across the globe.

In 2018, Jenna received a bronze medal for Working Riding and improved in the following year when she received a silver medal for Dressage as well as finishing ninth overall in Gauteng West.

Jenna finished third overall in South Africa in 2020 when she participated in 70cm graded showjumping.

This year, Jenna bagged a bronze medal for a team event (Handy Hunter) and also received a silver medal for coming second overall in Gauteng West.

Jenna has been riding horses since she was ten, and practices her craft at the Glover Paddocks Equestrian Park, which is a riding school and livery yard located in Honeydew, Roodepoort. Her instructor is Andrea Bekker

“I would like to compete at 1m Showjumping next year at SANESA and win the Easter/Spring Festival. In the future I aim to jump in the 1.5m and qualify to go overseas as well as for the Olympics,” said Jenna.
