Taking aim at the future

Clay Target Shooting Association hopes to encourage the youth to join the sport.

The world of sports is constantly evolving, with new disciplines and activities emerging all the time. However, one sport that has been around for centuries is clay target shooting, a discipline that requires skill, patience, and practice.

President of the Clay Target Shooting Association of South Africa (CTSASA), Orazio Cremona, is on a mission to introduce this exciting sport to a new generation of young sports fanatics.

It involves shooting at clay targets which are launched into the air from machines called traps. The sport requires a great deal of skill and strategy, as shooters need to be able to anticipate the trajectory of the clay targets and time their shots perfectly.

“This sport is an exciting way for the younger generation to develop their focus, discipline and teamwork skills. Introducing it to them will be a great initiative because it will challenge them both mentally and physically.

“It’s a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities and is also an excellent way to build confidence and self-esteem,” Orazio explains.

After CTSASA recently celebrated its 70th birthday and the 41st Chairman’s Cup final was held in Port Elizabeth, residents who took part showcased their best shooting skills representing the West Rand.

To encourage the sport, CTSASA is planning to launch a series of initiatives aimed at promoting clay target shooting in schools and communities. These initiatives will include coaching clinics, training programs, and competitions.
