Record breaking achievement for local shooter
Trailblazing shooter Samantha Pennells-Ingle breaks record at clay target shooting grand prix.
Renowned South African clay target shooter Samantha Pennells-Ingle has made history, shattering a ladies’ division record with an impressive 189 out of 200.
She shattered this record at the Fédération Internationale de Tir aux Armes Sportives de Chasse (FITASC) Universal Trench (UT) African Grand Prix 2025 which took place on February 15 and 16.
Samantha’s journey in the sport began at the age of 12 when she was introduced to clay target shooting by her father. Her father, a Protea Clay Target shooter himself, became her only coach in clay target shooting. Over the years, she has learnt valuable lessons in discipline, patience, and resilience, which have shaped her into a mentally strong competitor and advocate for women in sports.

Throughout her career, Samantha has earned numerous accolades, including Protea Colours in multiple disciplines and setting a new South African Ladies Universal Trench Record. Her most recent achievement at the FITASC UT Grand Prix has solidified her place as one of the country’s top shooters. Samantha’s impact extends beyond her impressive achievements in sports.
She is a vocal advocate for women in sports, pushing for greater equity, inclusivity, and representation. She believes that women should not have to fight twice as hard to prove themselves – that they deserve the same respect, opportunities, and platforms as their male counterparts.
As a mentor and role model, Samantha encourages young athletes, particularly women, to step into the world of sport with confidence.
“Passion and dedication will take you further than talent alone. Stay committed, keep learning, and push your limits,” she said.
Samantha’s inspiring journey is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and advocacy. As she continues to break barriers and challenge norms, she paves the way for future generations to thrive in the world of sport.
