SA golfer on the rise

Talented golfer Shannon Butler is defying expectations and inspiring others with her remarkable rise to the top.

In a world where natural talent and years of experience often seem like prerequisites for success, Shannon Butler’s golfing journey is a breath of fresh air.

With only three years experience under her belt, this young golfer who trains at Ruimsig Country Club has achieved what many can only dream of – representing her country on the international stage.

Shannon is one of the many golfers who represented Central Gauteng Golf at the Southern Regional All Africa Challenge in Windhoek, Namibia, from March 30 to April 4.

Her love affair with golf began in 2019, when she first stepped onto the golfing range with her mother’s set of clubs.

“I went to buy my set of clubs and fell in love with the game,” she said.

Fast forward to today, Shannon is leading the South African team as the playing manager at a prestigious international tournament. It’s a role that she’s honoured to take on and one that she’s well-equipped to handle.

“Representing GolfRSA and South Africa is a giant honour and something I could only dream of,” she said.

However, Shannon’s success is not just about her achievements but also about the impact she’s having on those around her. Her parents, who have been instrumental in supporting her golfing journey, couldn’t be prouder of their daughter.

“From our perspective as parents, Shannon is such a wonderful young lady that puts 100% into everything – her work, studies, and golf – and to think that she only took up golf in 2019 and has achieved such wonderful results in such a short space of time,” mom Janet Butler said.

As Shannon prepares to take on the best golfers from around the world, she’s drawing inspiration from her journey.

“It’s been such a life-changing journey so far, with an incredible sense of community in golf. We’re still learning, and I’m excited to see what’s next,” Shannon added.
