Roodie athletes conquer Two Oceans
Roodepoort Athletics Club runners Judge Mongale and Thato Motsie are happy with their Two Oceans results.
Elite athletes from all over the world descended on the mother city on April 5–6 for the prestigious Two Oceans Marathon (56km) and half marathon (21km).
Judge Mongale, the road captain of the Roodepoort Athletics Club, attempted his seventh ultramarathon, and despite facing setbacks, including three failed attempts, he persevered and successfully finished the race for the fourth time in an impressive time of 06:19:03.

Although this is slightly slower than his previous year’s time, he is pleased with his achievement.
“I fell at 7km and had to start over,” he said.
“At 45km, I got cramps and had to stop at every medical station for a massage. I had to walk and run, but I’m happy with my result. You learn from each race.”
Another elite Roodie athlete, Thato Motsie, completed his second ultramarathon in 06:48:00. Thato started running just before the Covid-19 pandemic and is thrilled with the progress he has made over the years.

“I love running because it’s a personal challenge,” he said. “You get what you deserve, and that’s what motivates me.”
The athletes say all eyes are on the upcoming Comrades Marathon.
