Florida runners swap takkies for swim trunks at Midmar Mile
The club encouraged its members to take part in other sporting codes.
Eight Florida Running Club members participated in the prestigious Midmar Mile swim event, a testament to the club’s dedication to fostering athletic excellence.
The Midmar Mile is the world’s largest water swim event held annually in February at Midmar Dam in KZN, Howick. The 53rd edition took place from February 5 to 8, featuring thousands of participants across various charity, elite, and recreational categories.
According to club chairperson Tessa Shellard, the club encourages its members to explore various disciplines beyond running, including swimming, cycling, trail running, and walking.

At the recent Midmar Mile, the swimmers participated in multiple categories, showcasing their versatility: E1 Disabled Ironwomen/ Ironman, E4 Non-Company Relay, E2 Family Relay, and E6 Men 31 and Over.
“We’ve participated in this event several times, and each year, we’re incredibly proud of every member who represents our club,” Shellard said.
“We’re not just a running club; we cater to various sporting disciplines, and it’s fantastic to see our members thrive in different areas.”
