Panorama FC crowned women’s league champions

Panorama FC shines in Gauteng Women Development League finals against the University of Pretoria.

Panorama FC’s U15 team claimed a 1–0 victory over the University of Pretoria (Tuks) in a thrilling Gauteng Women’s Development League (GWDL) U15 Top 8 final at Balfour Park Football Club on February 28.

In a tightly contested encounter, both sides showed attacking intent from the outset. The first half delivered end-to-end action, with Panorama creating several promising chances and twice coming close to breaking the deadlock.

According to Panorama FC technical coach Greg Green, it was one of the toughest matches of the tournament. Goalkeeper Kendra Meyer again proved reliable between the posts, making crucial saves to keep her side level as Tuks applied pressure.

“The breakthrough came late in the first half from a well-worked set piece. Panorama won a corner, and head coach Mechaela Sprangkaan was on her feet in anticipation. Having worked extensively on various corner-kick scenarios during training, the moment presented the perfect opportunity to execute one of their rehearsed techniques,” said Green.

Forward Armaani Turton delivered a direct ball into the six-yard box, and Pholoso Theswe timed her far-post run to perfection, finding the net to give Panorama a deserved 1–0 lead. The Pretoria side created several scoring opportunities but failed to convert.

Sprangkaan began the second half with tactical adjustments based on her first-half assessment. Chalondra Green was introduced into midfield, while Athina Fredericks shifted to a wider role on the left flank. The changes injected fresh energy as Panorama continued to compete strongly.

Tuks pushed for an equaliser, applying sustained pressure on the Panorama defence. However, the backline stood firm. Thabisa Makhnga and Aqhama Ndlangalavu delivered standout performances, denying Tuks clear scoring opportunities.

As the clock wound down, the final five minutes were tense for both teams until the referee’s whistle ended the contest.

Panorama’s players celebrated as their hard work secured the U15 GWDL Top 8 title – a victory built on disciplined defending, tactical awareness and well-executed set pieces under coach Sprangkaan.
