Horizon's karateka impress at nationals
The team brought home a whopping 47 medals in total.
Maintaining the standards of excellence is a non-negotiable for the karateka of Horizon Karate Centre, and they’ve continued to deliver exactly that for the past 25 years.
Sensei Wendy Wannenburg’s (7th dan) students performed exceptionally well at the South African Japan Karate Association’s (SA JKA) annual National Karate Championships held at the Ellis Park Arena in May.
The nationals saw many entries from across the country and featured divisions according to age, belt and gender, and for Horizon, it produced another set of results to be proud of.

The first event for the nationals was dedicated to the novices – white to red and belts, and special needs and the second day was for the Elite competitors – brown and black belts.
When all was done, members of the centre had collected a whopping 47 medals, a testament to their hard work and determination.
Among the standout performers were Hofmeyr Gerber and Bianca Jansen van Rensburg, who each secured double gold in the special needs divisions.

They were joined by Liam Davis, Harper Hinrichsen and Nolihle Malinga, who also delivered impressive performances, earning double gold medals in their respective divisions.
“I am very proud of all my students. Hard work always pays off. We have continued to deliver impressive results in the 25 years of our existence,” said Wannenburg.
She said she has five other students who have qualified to compete at the Indo Pacific Cup taking place in Mauritius in September, which will see around 20 countries participating.
