Young stars shine at national majorette competition
The spirit of school sport and performing arts was celebrated as the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) hosted its National Majorette Competition.
The sound of drums, cheers, and proud applause filled the air as schools from across South Africa gathered at Ruimsig Stadium for the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) National Majorette competition.
The prestigious final event on Saturday, July 11, brought together some of the country’s most talented young performers, who competed on a national stage while showcasing discipline, teamwork, and passion for the sport.
Teams arrived fully prepared after months of dedicated training. Dressed in colourful uniforms and performing highly co-ordinated routines, the majorettes impressed audiences with their precision, confidence, and commitment.

For many learners, the competition was more than just performing their routines. It was an opportunity to represent their schools, communities, and families while celebrating the hard work that goes into achieving excellence in majorette.
Parents who attended the event expressed pride and admiration for the young performers. Many said watching their children compete at a national level was a memorable experience and a reward for the sacrifices made throughout the year.
“I am incredibly proud of my daughter and her team. We have watched them practise in the early mornings, after school, and during weekends. Seeing them walk onto that field with confidence made every sacrifice worthwhile,” parent Elizabeth Kamwanga said.

Another parent highlighted the positive impact of majorette on learners’ personal development.
“This sport teaches so much more than performance. The children learn discipline, respect, teamwork, and how to work towards a goal. Being here today and seeing all these schools come together is truly inspiring,” said Mimi Kalema.
Learners reflected dedication as their performances were the result of months of preparation, commitment, and teamwork. The national competition provided learners with valuable experience and encouraged them to continue pursuing excellence.

The event also served as a celebration for supporters who filled the venue with encouragement and school pride. Families travelled long distances to cheer for their teams, creating an atmosphere of unity and excitement.
SAMCA’s National Majorette Competition continues to strengthen the profile of majorette sport in South Africa by giving young performers a platform to develop their skills and compete at the highest level.
