Future legal leaders demonstrate practical skills in The IIE’s Varsity College’s law business simulation

Fourth-year students from The IIE's Varsity College Sandton and Waterfall showcased their legal expertise and business savvy during an intensive three-day simulation, bridging classroom knowledge with real-world practice.

In a vibrant display of legal skill and strategic thinking, fourth-year IIE Bachelor of Laws students from The IIE’s Varsity College recently participated in a dynamic three-day law business simulation.

The event, which also featured a competitive component, provided students with a rare opportunity to experience the fast-paced realities of managing a law firm, bridging the gap between academic theory and practical application.

Over the course of the simulation, students formed mock law firms representing The IIE’s Varsity College Sandton and Waterfall campuses.

Each team engaged in realistic legal scenarios, managing client relations, developing internal strategies, and navigating the operational aspects of running a legal practice.

The competition fostered critical thinking, teamwork, professionalism under pressure, and an understanding of the broader business context within the legal industry.

Jarrod Mathew Busch, a fourth-year student from the Sandton campus, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the law business simulation, and the competition component. It was an enlightening experience. I learnt so much about business acumen and what it takes to successfully run a law firm.

“It is not always about trying to get the biggest case or client; it’s about understanding your pricing margins, as well as how you deal with internal and external relations.”

The event saw The IIE’s Varsity College teams from Sandton claim first and third places, while the Waterfall teams secured second and fourth positions, highlighting the high level of skill and preparation among the students.
