SEDIBENG.- Boipatong FC began their ABC Motsepe League with a baptism of fire following their elimination from the Nedbank Cup preliminary round by Free Agents FC with a 2-0 defeat at the Nike Centre in Soweto on September 12.

The match was packed with drama from the start when a Boipatong defender was sent off for foul play in the opening minutes.

Playing with a man down for most of the match, Boipatong struggled to contain their opponents.

Free Agents capitalised on numerical advantage to take the lead before doubling their advantage in the second half, sealing a comfortable win. Despite the disappointing elimination, club chairperson, Gab Maloka, insisted that the result is water under the bridge.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Maloka praised his team’s overall performance and pointed out that the early red card completely changed the game.

Boipatong’s attention now turns to the ABC Motsepe League campaign, which is scheduled to kick off at the end of September.

The club is fully focused.

Maloka remains optimistic about their league prospects, highlighting a productive pre-season that included high-profile friendly matches against Mamelodi Sundowns at Noordhoek.

In fact, showing great resilience, Boipatong played a friendly against Sundowns’ non-travelling senior players the very day after their cup exit. The club is now fully focused on securing a strong start when the league officially gets underway.
