Bringing about change is central to both the political and government philosophy of Kingsol Chabalala (40), originally from Evaton and already an elected member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

“When democracy came in 1994 I saw the light go on in my parent’s eyes – after 22 years of ANC rule the light has died in their eyes… I want to see that light on again and also in the people of Emfuleni,” says Kingsol Chabalala.
Bringing about change is central to both the political and government philosophy of Kingsol Chabalala (40), originally from Evaton and already an elected member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
“The only constant in life is change – we just need to reach the people and give them hope. You only have to look around you on any day of the week, no matter where you stay, to find reasons to vote for the Democratic Alliance on the 3rd of August,” says Kingsol with a determined glint in the eye.
What about him personally? What is he most passionate about?
“I’m especially passionate about anti-drug education for the youth and their families, due to using marijuana recreationally as a misguided young man of 23, employed by Correctional Services. I was dismissed after a disciplinary and learnt my lesson the hard way.
“But I also thank God for making me see the error of my ways at that time. Now I know what I am talking about when I encourage the youth to stay away from drug and other addictive behaviour.”
His energy have been felt by the public, political friend and foe alike in an unprecedented visibility and issues campaign to highlight exactly how he as Mayor would bring about change in Emfuleni.
His approach is:
•Visibly show the political will and determination to change water leaks, potholes, bad services and maladministration
•Crack down even as a candidate on corruption and corrupt officials acting with impunity – naming and shaming them and the crony companies who take taxpayer money but do not complete projects in Sebokeng, Sharpeville, Evaton, Bophelong, Boipatong and other areas
•Expose bad financial administration, such as the decision of the ANC-led ELM to spend only 2% of its R6.1 billion budget on maintenance instead of at least 8%.
•Focus on identifying and developing job creation and local employment in Emfuleni through stakeholder engagement and cutting government red tape and lengthy waiting periods.
“The residents of Emfuleni know why they want and need change– they can make it happen by voting DA on 3 August,” he says.
