SEBOKENG.- The road block in Moshoeshoe Road last week Tuesday has claimed one life.A young man was shot during the protest.
Hostel residents blocked the road demanding Thabong Shopping Centre management employ them as they are the rightful supporters of the centre. The man died in hospital after a verbal battle between motorists and protesters.
It is alleged that the deceased was not part of the protest. He was hit by a stray bullet. It is not clear who fired the bullet that killed the pedestrian between protesters and motorists.
Hell broke loose when hostel residents took it upon themselves to block one of the busiest roads in the Vaal.
The incident has shocked many residents. Police spokesperson Captain Teboho Lephoto confirms that a case of murder has been opened.
“We are investigating a case of murder, though a case of inciting public violence still pends,” said Lephoto.
The main road was blocked with huge rocks and stones, including shacks. Police enforcement was deployed to the scene in order to control the angry protestors.
Lephoto said, “We arrested one suspect for public violence.
We have no leads in the murder case though we are doing everything in our power to get those involved,” said Lephoto.
Sedibeng Ster tried to get concerned residents to come forward and voice their grievances and demands.
