Dagga suspect freed following raid

SEBOKENG. – Mystery surrounds the release of a suspect produced by a Police bust last week.

While Police sought to redeem themselves in the eyes of the community by seizing dagga with the street value estimated at R150 000, and various tools roughly estimated at R20 000, the Magistrates Court had to temporarily withdraw the matter.

Police spokesperson Captain Teboho Lephoto said that the senior prosecutor instructed the investigating officer to gather more information on the matter so the court could proceed. The stunned 50-year-old woman could not believe her ears when the court instructed her to walk free. Only in the event of new information will the court proceed.

The suspect was arrested when police pounced unexpectedly on her house during the day of February 8, as she relaxed in Zone 13, Sebokeng. She was charged with possession of drugs (a large quantity of dagga), possession of a suspectedly stolen white VW Polo and various tools.

The tools included bicycles, a grinding machine, a pipe wrench, a car washing machine, a welding machine, electric cords and an Emfuleni municipal dumpsters amongst other things. The suspect was not issued with a new court date.
