ANC leadership commits to restoring Roshnee

The most urgent challenge facing the Roshnee community are the recurring electricity outages caused by ageing and overloaded substations.

SEDIBENG.- The ANC Sedibeng leadership, this week, met with the Roshnee Community leadership.

The meeting, the party said, was part of its ongoing programme of community engagement and service delivery interventions in Ward 21 and surrounding areas.

The purpose of the engagement was to establish a structured partnership between the community and government to address long-standing service delivery challenges.

The meeting was attended by community representatives, ANC regional leadership and the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) leadership, including the Executive Mayor, Hassan Makola.

ANC Sedibeng Secretary, Jason Mkhwane, said that the purpose of the engagement was to establish a structured partnership between the community and government to address long-standing service delivery challenges.

“The meeting agreed that the most urgent challenges facing the Roshnee community are the recurring electricity outages caused by ageing and overloaded substations, deteriorating water infrastructure resulting in frequent pipe bursts, municipal maintenance concerns such as illegal dumping, overgrown public spaces and waste collection, as well as billing anomalies affecting some residents and institutions.”

Eskom and municipal technical teams should conduct site inspections of the affected substations and infrastructure.

Mkhwane added that it was agreed that Eskom and municipal technical teams should conduct site inspections of the affected substations and infrastructure to determine both immediate and long-term solutions.

“The municipality will prioritise quick service delivery interventions, including grass cutting, clearing illegal dumping sites and attending to urgent water leaks, while more comprehensive infrastructure assessments and upgrade plans are developed.”

All parties agreed to establish a structured and ongoing engagement process.

The community leadership also undertook to provide supporting documentation and evidence relating to specific service delivery and billing concerns to assist the municipality in resolving these matters.

“Importantly, all parties agreed to establish a structured and ongoing engagement process, with regular feedback meetings and progress reporting, to ensure that identified issues are tracked and addressed through a coordinated partnership between the community, municipal leadership and the ANC.”
