An evening with Italian folk music at Etienne Rousseau Theatre

Andrioli and Nigro are two young authors and performers working on a proposal with innovative traits, in between a well-rooted Salento style. Salento is also known as "the heel of Italy"

SASOLBURG. – A traditional folk duo from Salento, the “heel” of Italy, made up by Rachele Andrioli (voice) and Rocco Nigro (accordion) is currently in South Africa to introduce their new album, Maletiempu, to local audiences.
The Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria has organised their tour, which also includes a performance at the Etienne Rousseau Theatre (ERT) in Sasolburg on November 27 at 19:00.
Andrioli and Nigro are two young authors and performers working on a proposal with innovative traits, in between a well-rooted Salento style.
The two artists explore song-writing, experiment with diverse musical territories such as tango and fado, and add modern influences to bring a true Mediterranean ‘flavour’ to their music. The duo has three published albums produced by the Italian label ‘Dodicilune’ namely Malìe, Maldimè and Maletiempu, which have achieved considerable international success.
The close-knit duo continues to revive the traditional songs of Southern Italy with modern sensibility, with the addition of its own personal and original contribution, mixing pieces from regional traditions (such as Nunna Nanna, Tanti Suspiri and Vanni Dell’Uorto) with original tracks like Maletiempu, Occhi and Zumpettana.
