Home desperately needs help

Morake: I am pleading with good Samaritans who will be able to help us turn this centre into a home once more. Children can’t live in these conditions because they will get sick.

EVATON. – EVATON. – The Ebenezer Children’s Home in Evaton needs the community at large to hear their desperate cry for help and assist them after their ceiling collapsed recently.

As a result, the house which accommodates about 30 children is very cold this winter. Water will also leak into the house when the raining season starts.

Julia Morake, Centre Manager, says, “I am pleading with good Samaritans who will be able to help us turn this centre into a home once more. Children can’t live in these conditions because they will get sick.”

Morake said that any donation which will assist the centre will be highly appreciated. Morake suspects that the collapse of the ceiling was due to poor work done by the company that installed the ceiling in the first instance. Another way that the Vaal fraternity can assist is by supporting an initiative by a young woman who adopted the home not so long ago.

33-year-old Koketso Malefetse will part-take in the upcoming Washie 100 Miler marathon from Port Alfred to East London to raise money for the home.

Malefetse is asking for at least R 2 for every kilometer completed or just above R 160 for completing the race. All proceeds will go towards the refurbishment of the home. Building materials and paint are welcome. Anyone who wishes to make a donation can contact Julia on 083 328 0579 or Koketso on 076 177 7042.
