Police nabbed with drugs released

VEREENIGING. - About five police officers who were arrested for allegedly dealing in drugs recently during a raid in Vereeniging have been released.

A reliable source told Sedibeng Ster that the case had not been enrolled in court because of missing information inside the docket. The arrest was made after taxi operators alerted the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko that police were distributing drugs at the taxi rank.

Mazibuko together with Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Public Safety MMC Ndade Mokoena, Law Enforcement Agencies, Patrollers and Vaal Bikers were conducting raids to eradicate crime in the Vereeniging precinct.

“We discovered quite a lot of drugs that were left unattended in Vereeniging, we also confiscated a lot of dangerous weapons.

“As we were busy alongside the railway line we heard a lot of commotion. Taxi operators alleged that there were people selling drugs. Five members of the SAPS were arrested after police cars were found with dagga, crystal meth and a lot of number plates.”

“We were also tipped off about another scrap yard where we found two suspects sitting on top of nyaope bags. Their handler had fled but failed to warn them about the operation.”

Mazibuko has since urged other municipalities to conduct raids in their various precincts in order to eradicate crime, and also praised the effectiveness of operations that have been conducted in Sedibeng in the past few weeks.
