SEDIBENG.- Rhulani Mokwena (36) became the first young coach to scoop the Coach of the Season award after being voted by PSL coaches at the PSL Award on Sunday night.
Mokwena was unanimously voted for by all PSL head coaches after he led Mamelodi Sundowns to their sixth DStv Premiership League title in a row. To sum up his success, this season, Mokwena didn’t only lead Sundowns to their sixth DStv Premiership League title but he also had an incredible run in the CAF Champions League.
He is the first young coach to Scoop the award which was previously dominated by Gavin Hunt and Pitso Mosimane. Mokwena took over as the sole head coach in October after the club rang some changes in the technical department. He grabbed this opportunity with both hands and never disappointed the club’s management who had faith in him. Speaking at the awards, Mokwena said credit must go to his technical staff and players for making his job easy.
“I will forever be grateful to lead a big institution like Mamelodi Sundowns it comes with a lot of responsibilities. The expectations are very high because of the club’s history and previous success. I think we could have done better than this, but next season we will be well prepared,” said Mokwena.
