SHARPEVILLE. – Since the beginning of the academic year, the Education Veterans have been touring schools in the Sedibeng District to provide support and deliver a message of hope to pupils for the 2024 academic year.
Comprising retired professionals from various roles within the education sector, this NGO was founded by Agnes Matlhare to unite retired individuals passionate about education and contribute to society.
Recently, the veterans, led by the founder Matlhare, conducted a prayerful ceremony at Thuto-Lore Comprehensive School in Sharpeville after the school achieved a 91.5% pass rate in their 2023 matric exams.
Speaking during the ceremony, Matlhare congratulated teachers, parents, and pupils for their combined effort in achieving good results.
“You have shown that one’s background does not determine their success. Many of us here come from humble beginnings, but we were able to overcome our circumstances and pursue careers in education.I urge you to work hard, listen to your teachers, and always do what is right.”
Matlhare and her team prayed for a fruitful year ahead, pledging further support to the school where necessary.
Following the ceremony, Matlhare presented an award to the school principal, Thabo Lehobo. Lehobo expressed gratitude for the recognition.
“I would like to thank all the educators for their dedication to ensuring our matriculants excel. Despite the challenges we faced, the teachers consistently went above and beyond, and for that, we are grateful.”
Addressing the pupils, Lehobo encouraged them to seize the opportunity for education, emphasising its importance for their future. Deputy Principal Moeketsi Mohloki expressed appreciation for the support from individuals with previous experience in the education field.
