Police seek suspects in fatal shooting incident in Amelia

Detectives are appealing to the public as the search for the suspects intensifies following what began as a reported car crash quickly turned into a murder investigation.

ZAMDELA – Detectives are appealing to members of the public to assist with information that may lead to the arrest of suspect(s) involved in a fatal shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of March 29, in the Amelia section.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani, at about 02:50, Zamdela CSC members responded to a complaint of a motor vehicle accident.

“Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a white Toyota Corolla that had collided with a tree and a gate. Inside the vehicle, an adult male, later identified as Samuel Mohlabane, was found seated and motionless,” she said.

“Emergency medical personnel declared the victim deceased at the scene.”

Rani said preliminary investigations revealed that he sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body.

“It is reported that multiple gunshots were heard in the vicinity before the discovery of the vehicle. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation,” she added.

Following the incident, the Zamdela detectives urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist in identifying or locating the suspect(s) to come forward.
