The case has been postponed for sentencing.

PRETORIA – Aletta Martha ‘Alta’ van Eck (75), a former staff member of Pinedene Primary School in Vanderbijlpark, pleaded guilty in the Specialized Commercial Crimes Court on April 8 to a charge of theft of R15.6m.

The amount relates to funds that disappeared from the school’s bank accounts between January 2013 and December 2020.

Bail extended…

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), no previous convictions were proven against Van Eck.

Her bail was therefore extended.

The court requested a correctional report as well as a probation officer report for the purposes of the pre-sentence proceedings.

The case was postponed to July 2 for sentencing.

Van Eck’s first appearance in connection with the case was on 4 July, 2025.
