32 tons of tar ensure fewer potholes in Vanderbijlpark

Since the beginning of the year, AfriForum's Vanderbijlpark branch has been making sure that the potholes in the town are repaired one after the other.

Earlier this year, the branch joined hands with the community of Flora Gardens and has since assisted them with their efforts to renovate this residential area’s roads.

AfriForum and the residents of the neighborhood have so far used 1,268 bags (that’s about 32 tons of tar) to fill potholes.

“It is gratifying to see communities taking responsibility for their neighbourhoods.

“AfriForum tries to continuously support communities like this by launching sustainable DIY actions,” says Stephanus Blignault, AfriForum’s district coordinator for the West Rand.

Since January, the Vanderbijlpark branch has also cut more than 20 hectares of grass in parks and fields in the town and filled and drove away a total of 382 garbage bags.

These activities form part of AfriForum’s commitment to improve and beautify Vanderbijlpark.

Blignault says the progress made in the past few months would not have been possible without the Vanderbijlpark branch’s sustainability team.

“Their perseverance and enthusiasm make them a force to be reckoned with and the more people who become part of the team, the bigger the difference the branch in Vanderbijlpark can make. Doing it yourself is certainly better than doing nothing.”
