Annual Schools Moot Court Regional Festival in session

This is an annual competition where learners are exposed to writing heads of arguments for applicants and respondents on the given hypothetical case.

SEDIBENG.- The Department of Education held the third Annual Schools Moot Court Regional Festival at the Vereeniging Court on Saturday,September 14.

Ten schools from the region represented their districts, Sedibeng East and West. This regional festival is held in partnership with the NWU Law Faculty, the Department of Justice and the Gauteng Department of Education.

A senior education specialist from the Gauteng Department of Education (Sedibeng West District), Patrick Thokwayo, said that this is an annual competition where learners are exposed to writing heads of arguments for applicants and respondents on the given hypothetical case, court etiquette and procedures, oral arguments and adjudication processes.

“The 10 schools presented their oral arguments in front of a full bench of attorneys, lecturers and fourth year law students from NWU (main campus),” he said.

The results were as follows: 3rd – Kgokare Secondary, 2nd – Tsolo Secondary, 1st –  Hoërskool Vanderbilpark and the best Oralist was Basetsana Khesa from Hoërskool Suiderlig.
