Bridge now safer thanks to Proudly Vaalpark

Members of the organisation unblocked the stormwater drainage system after it caused a dangerous amount of water to collect on the bridge during rainstorms.

VAALPARK – A community that stands together and works together can move mountains. Proudly Vaalpark is proof of this. Thanks to members of this organisation, Vaalpark is still one of the neatest residential areas in the Metsimaholo Local Municipality.

Proudly Vaalpark is particularly involved in cutting grass on medians and parks, and with the community’s support, potholes in their main roads are also regularly filled.

However, the members’ work is not limited to their area of residence. Last weekend members unblocked a stormwater drainage system next to the R57 bridge over the Vaal River between Vanderbijlpark and Sasolburg (near Stonehaven, towards Vaalpark).

“This blockage posed a dangerous situation for all motorists because, during storms or heavy rain, a mass accumulation of water occurred on the bridge. The area is now clean and safe – not only for Vaalpark motorists but for everyone who uses this road regularly,” says Joseph Meyer, chairman of Proudly Vaalpark.

* Proudly Vaalpark’s annual general meeting will be held on Thursday, November 28 at 18:00 at the AGS congregation on the corner of President Swart and Tafelberg Streets, Vaalpark. Residents of Vaalpark are welcome to join the meeting. However, notification of your planned presence is essential and can be arranged on 083 383 2310 or by email at proudlyvaalpark@gmail.com
