Since its very first run in November 2017, Meyerton parkrun has become a Saturday morning fixture for hundreds of locals – a place where walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers come together for fitness, friendship and fun.
Meyerton parkrun will mark a major milestone this weekend when participants gather for the event’s 300th run.
The celebration takes place on Saturday, August 16, at the Midvaal Sports and Conference Centre in Begonia Street, Meyerton.
The run starts at 8:00am and is free to join.
To add some colour to the occasion, organisers are inviting participants to dress up as their favourite cartoon character.
Dogs on leads are welcome, and spectators are encouraged to come along to support and soak up the atmosphere.’
Meyerton parkrun hosted its very first event on 18 November 2017. Since then, hundreds of walkers, joggers, runners and volunteers have made it part of their Saturday routine.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, parkrun is a global, volunteer-led initiative offering free, timed 5 km events every Saturday morning. It’s designed to be inclusive – anyone, regardless of age or fitness level, can take part.
Participants simply register once online to receive a personal barcode.
This barcode is scanned at the finish line, allowing their time and position to be recorded and emailed to them after the event.
parkrun is organised entirely by volunteers from the local community, who handle everything from course setup and marshalling to timing and results processing.
Whether you walk, jog, run, volunteer or just watch, Meyerton parkrun offers a friendly, welcoming environment to get active and meet people.
