SEBOKENG – The police in Sebokeng are investigating a house robbery and kidnapping case following a terrifying incident that occurred in Zone 10 on October 14.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane, the victims were watching a soccer match at home when four unknown men, with firearms, wearing balaclavas and gloves, forcefully entered the residence.
“The suspects threatened the victims at gunpoint and ordered them to lie on the floor before tying their hands with shoelaces. One of the victims was forced to unlock his cellphone and open his banking app. The suspects then transferred an undisclosed amount of money to an unknown account.”
Mokhachane confirmed that both victims were forced into their vehicle and subsequently driven to an area next to Sebokeng Hostel by the suspects.
“On arrival, one of the suspects guarded the victims while the others returned to the house to steal additional household items. Later, the victims were locked inside the boot of their own vehicle.”
Once the suspects fled the scene, the victims managed to free themselves and safely returned home. The victims did not sustain any physical injuries.
Following the incident, station commander Brigadier Thembekile Kubone urged the community to remain vigilant at all times.
“We are appealing to all residents to ensure their homes are properly secured, especially during the evening. Criminals are taking advantage of moments when people are relaxed and distracted.”
