DAWN demands justice for murdered 6-year-old
Six-year-old murder victim remembered as community demands justice
VEREENIGING – The Democratic Alliance Women’s Network (DAWN) was seen protesting outside the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on November 26, during the court appearance of a 33-year-old murder-accused father, who was detained after being charged with the gruesome murder of his daughter.
Her body was discovered at her family home in Sharpeville, with multiple stab wounds, on October 8, after her father fled the scene. The father subsequently handed himself over to the police. In October, the suspect was denied bail after it had been discovered that the deceased had also been raped.
DAWN, supported by male members of the DA, led a demonstration carrying placards, calling for justice for the gruesome murder of the child.
Speaking to Ster North, DA Councillor Thandi Mthimkhulu says, “We are demanding that justice be served so that the family can find peace. Our demonstration is to show support and sympathy to the family and to send a strong message to all perpetrators that we will not just stand by, but we will put pressure on the courts to deal decisively with perpetrators of such crimes.”
Mthimkhulu said such gruesome crimes deserve harsh rulings by the courts. “We stand with the family during these difficult times. Although her life will not return, justice shall be served. Enough is enough!”
Police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango says, ” The suspect briefly appeared at the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court. The case has been postponed to January 8, 2026. He has been remanded in custody until then.”
