Pedestrian bridge a danger to the community
It is also used, at their own risk, by learners attending the nearby Leema Mokotudi Primary School.
SEBOKENG. – If someone does not do something, a pedestrian bridge that was allegedly donated by a member of the community will soon do more harm than the good it was meant to do.
The bridge, next to the abandoned Evaton golf course, serves as a link between Evaton and Zone 7.

Residents have complained about the unsafe nature of the bridge and the high grass around it. The bridge doesn’t have barricades on the sides, and from time to time, people fall into the nearby Kliprivier.
It is also used, at their own risk, by learners attending the nearby Leema Mokotudi Primary School.
The community has asked for a safer alternative.

Recently, DA Councillor, Ayanda Ngubane, enquired about the bridge from the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), where he asked if it was constructed by the municipality, how much was spent on its construction, if the municipality plans to build a safer bridge, and when?

“On many occasions, people have fallen into the river due to criminal activities, and school children, being school children, have also fallen into the river while pushing each other. Something needs to be done,” Ngubane said.
The ELM responded, to the Councillor, that no monies were spent on the bridge, as it was donated by a community member assisting the affected community. The municipality added that it does not have plans to build a new (safer) bridge.
