VEREENIGING.- Sedibeng District Municipality, in conjunction with the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, held a successful Sports Indaba.
The two-day Sedibeng Sports Indaba took place at Vaal Teknorama on Saturday and Sunday.

This historical event was attended by sports and political bigwigs in Gauteng. Representatives/administrators from all the sporting codes attended.
The Sedibeng Sports Indaba was to reflect on and look to the future of sports development in Sedibeng.

It was a fruitful gathering with speakers from different federations sharing their experiences with those in attendance on how to improve their federations/clubs, and athletes. South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) president Barry Hendriks was also in attendance, as was the chairperson of the Gauteng oversight Committee, Gauteng Sport Department, the National Club Development Director, and School Sports and Club Development.

The three local municipalities were also represented with the following federations: Continental Sports Foundation under the leadership of Kenneth Conti Kubheka, Remember Elite Sports Academy, Vaal University of Technology (VUT), and Sedibeng District Municipality, among others.
However, Hendriks was the biggest highlight of the Sports Indaba.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Xolani Mathumbo, Sedibeng Sports Interim Chairperson, hailed the Sedibeng Sports Indaba as a big thing to happen in this region. Mathumbo said he does not doubt that whatever was discussed at this sports indaba will improve sports in this region.
He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that this Sports Indaba was long overdue.

“I’m happy that all the sporting codes stakeholders were represented. We are going to take it to the media and present our plan,” said Mathumbo.

Some familiar faces who also attended this gathering include former soccer and boxing greats such as Augustine Makalakalane, Aaron Kabi, and Sailor Tshabalala, among others.
