Chabalala highlights road infrastructure plight in ELM
An oversight visit led by Kingsol Chabalala has revealed severe road deterioration across Emfuleni Local Municipality,
Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) DA mayoral candidate Kingsol Chabalala, MPL, flanked by DA Emfuleni North deputy constituency chair Motseki Hlalele, conducted an oversight at various problematic roads within the ELM. The visit highlighted major problems related to road infrastructure in the municipality.
The roads visited included Sekati Street in Boipatong, Nelson Mandela Road in Bophelong, Ezidumevu Street in Zone 6, and Sebe Street in Zone 7. The roads form part of the 40 roads earmarked for rehabilitation in 2024.

Seeing the condition of the roads, Chabalala questioned how it is possible that millions are spent on “fixing” roads, yet they end up worse than before.
“There are potholes everywhere, broken surfaces, and roads that used to carry taxis and daily traffic are now so damaged that even taxis can’t use them anymore. These are the same roads people rely on to get to work, school, and hospitals.”
Chabalala said communities continue to suffer while public funds are being wasted.
“We are tired of empty promises and poor workmanship. Our taxes should fix roads, not destroy them. We deserve accountability, we deserve transparency, and we deserve roads that actually last.”

Chabalala said residents of ELM deserve better, adding that broken roads, failing services, and communities left behind cannot be the future of the municipality.
“Emfuleni can work again — but only with honest leadership and a government that puts residents first.”
In a response to questions tabled by Chabalala in the Gauteng Legislature, Gauteng MEC for Transport and Logistics, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, confirmed that the 40 roads in ELM had been rehabilitated at a total cost of R280m.
