ANC Sedibeng mourns the passing of Maphalla
His funeral service will take place at the Vereeniging City Hall on Saturday.
SEDIBENG.- The African National Congress (ANC) in Sedibeng has expresses profound sorrow at the passing of one of its veteran cadres and esteemed community leaders, Taudi Simon Maphalla, affectionately known as “Cde Sy”.
Maphalla died in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 19.
“Maphalla devoted his life to the struggle…”
The party’s Regional Secretary, Jason Mkhwane said that Maphalla devoted his life to the struggle for the liberation, empowerment, and development of the people of the Vaal and that he cultivated his political consciousness through active involvement in various civic formations, including the Vaal Civic Association (VCA), now known as SANCO, where he advanced through the ranks and ultimately served on the National Executive Committee.

In 2006, Maphalla entered the sphere of local government as a ward councillor in the Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) and subsequently served as the Chief Whip of the ANC caucus.
He further rendered services in several portfolios within the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) as a member of the mayoral committee, including finance and corporate services, as well as roads and transport.

“Comrade Maphalla was a principled, disciplined, and exemplary leader who executed every organisational and governmental responsibility entrusted to him with diligence, humility, and distinction. His invaluable contribution to the Mass Democratic Movement and the broader pursuit of social justice will remain an enduring part of the proud history of our movement in the Vaal.”
The ANC extended its sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Maphalla family, particularly his wife, Elsa, as well as his friends, comrades, and the broader ANC family in Sedibeng and beyond.
“Comrade Sy served the ANC and the broader Mass Democratic Movement with unwavering dedication, humility, and commitment. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Mkhwane ended.
Maphalla’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 28, at the Vereeniging Civic Theatre at 14:00. His funeral service will take place at the Vereeniging City Hall on Saturday May 30 at 7:00.
