Sasol Garage robbed in Vereeniging, gas cylinders stolen
The suspects initially purchased fuel.
VEREENIGING.- The Vereeniging police investigating a case of business robbery following an incident that occurred at a Sasol Garage situated on Houtkop Road, Duncanville, next to Century Electrical, in the early hours of Thursday.
It is said that, a 29-year-old petrol attendant was on duty when a silver-grey Toyota Corolla occupied by three unknown suspects arrived at the filling station at approximately 04:45.
A few minutes later the same car returned
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela, said that the suspects initially purchased fuel and left the premises, but a few minutes later, at approximately 04:51, the same vehicle returned.
“One of the suspects, allegedly armed with a handgun, confronted the petrol attendant and demanded gas bottles. The remaining suspects forcibly opened the gas storage locker and loaded thirteen 9kg gas cylinders into the vehicle before fleeing the scene.”
Eight empty and five full 9kg gas cylinders were stolen.
Maxambela confirmed that the stolen property consists of eight empty and five full 9kg gas cylinders with an estimated value of R6 460.
No shots were fired during the incident and no injuries were reported.
“The incident was reported to Vereeniging SAPS later that evening when the complainant returned for duty.”
