Former Moroka Swallows goalkeeper Josias Qindi was one of the notable figures who came to pay his last respects.

SEBOKENG.- Former soccer great Philemon Moroke was laid to rest at his final destination, Evaton Cemetery, on October 17.

The funeral service was held at his home in Zone 7.

Moroke was a prolific player during his playing days, playing for the now-defunct Evaton Home Defenders FC.

The club was a powerhouse and produced exciting players, some playing in South African top-flight football. Moroke was also the club’s secretary.

He was a member of the South African Masters and Legends Football Association (SAMLFA) at the time of his death. He was also administrator of the Qwebezela Masters. His funeral was attended by the who’s who in football, including former professional soccer players.

The Emfuleni Local Football Association’s MMC of Sports and Recreation, Lehlohonolo Malindi, was also in attendance.

Until his last day, he was still involved in the game.

The SAMLFA Sedibeng chairperson, Bricks Mokolo, described Moroke as a humble individual who contributed a lot to football both as a player and administrator. “He was passionate about football.  Until his last day, he was still involved in the game. He leaves a legacy, especially for those who were close to him. As SAMLFA Sedibeng, we are proud to have worked with him,” he concluded.
